The proposers for the application to open The Sheriff School are concurrently forming a multi-academy trust in which the school will sit alongside a primary free school and the Outstanding Lutterworth High School.
The core proposer group includes governors and senior leaders at the high-achieving Lawrence Sheriff School in Rugby which is graded Outstanding by Ofsted and continues to deliver excellent outcomes for all its pupils. Lawrence Sheriff School will act as support school to The Sheriff School. Lawrence Sheriff School is a National Teaching School with substantial experience of supporting schools in challenging circumstances as well as those with similarly high standards and with a strong reputation for leadership development in both staff and students. Leaders at the school have a successful track record of supporting new schools, having provided the leadership team for the Northampton International Academy. Furthermore, Lawrence Sheriff School is the approved sponsor for Gateway Primary School, which will open in Rugby in 2021.
An effective governance structure
The Sheriff School plans to have a Local Advisory Board (LAB) from opening, which will be officially constituted as a committee of the Board of Trustees, to which it will be held accountable. We will recruit school governors, as far is as possible, from the local and relevant business communities.
Trustees and school governors will meet regularly with the Headteacher and school staff in order to provide both challenge and support for the school. They will act as critical friends to the school.
