Welcome to The Sheriff School, a state-funded secondary school for students aged 11-18 which is proposed to open in Nuneaton from September 2022. Our application to open the new school has been submitted through the Free Schools Programme to the Department for Education (DfE).
The Sheriff School will be a co-educational school for students of all abilities and from all backgrounds with a Mathematics and Computing specialism. The high-achieving Lawrence Sheriff School in Rugby, placed seventh in the country out of more than 3,200 secondary schools in 2013, will act as support school.
If approved, the school will open with an intake of 180 Year 7 students, growing organically with the same intake each year, until reaching full capacity of 1,200 students, including 300 in the Sixth Form. It is proposed that a brand new, state-of-the-art school building will be located at the Top Farm housing development off Higham Lane, Weddington.
This new school is being established by the Lawrence Sheriff School Academy Trust to help to meet the need for high-quality secondary school places as identified by the Local Authority and will also contribute to raising standards across 11-18 schools in Nuneaton, identified by the DfE as Priority District for free school applications. It will increase parental choice and diversity of local secondary provision in the town and will also address the increasing demand for school places created by several new housing developments in the area.
